Abstract

The main focus of the study was to proffer an analysis of power politics within the Russia Ukrainian war. The study relied on qualitative research due to its ability to get people’s opinions on the study at hand. The theoretical underpinnings used in the study were power theory and realism. The researcher also used Purposive sampling and snowballing. Data was collected from people who were knowledge on power politics such as journalist, Political Scientist, embassy officials from Russian Embassy, academics and security experts. The findings from the study reviewed power politics at play between the Russian federation and USA and her allies. The war in Ukrainian is not a war between Russia and Ukraine but rather it is between USA and the Russian federation. Findings exposed power politics at play within the United Nations General Assembly where the Western democracies are influencing countries to vote against Russia and those who insist to vote in favour risk losing aid and economic support. Power politics is also visible in the economy and military. The findings also held USA and its NATO allies as responsible for the war due to encroachment of the Western democracies in the previous Russia’s sphere of influence. The encroachment of former Warsaw pact into the NATO allies and step made by Ukraine made Russia to defend its self against provocation by USA and its NATO allies
