Abstract

The aim of this research was to explore the security implication of the Indo-Pakistani conflict over Kashmir to the South Asia region. This was qualitative research which employed interviews and document analysis to unravel the multifaceted nature of the conflict. For the selection of participants purposive sampling was used. Examining its causes revealed a complex interplay of factors, including territorial claims and power struggles. Historical roots contribute to the persistent dispute, while socio-cultural dimensions, marked by diverse identities within Kashmir, add layers of complexity. Human rights violations underscore the urgent humanitarian aspect of the conflict. The study's second focus explores the India Pakistan conflict's effects on bilateral relations and security in South Asia. Profound consequences emerge, as civilians in Kashmir face displacement, injuries, and loss of life. The conflict perpetuates a troubling militarization cycle, with both nations allocating significant budgets to defense, fueling an arms race. The Line of Control (LoC) and international borders have become frequent flashpoints, exacerbating an already volatile environment. External actors complicate the security landscape, contributing to accusations of proxy wars and support for militant groups. Diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan remain strained due to historical disputes, ongoing conflicts, and internal pressures. The region's association with terrorism further complicates the diplomatic landscape, with militant groups in and around Kashmir having links to elements within both countries. The nuclear capabilities of India and Pakistan introduce an additional layer of complexity, raising global concerns about the risk of nuclear escalation. In conclusion, the research emphasizes the urgent need for attention and resolution to mitigate the deep-seated impacts of the Kashmir conflict on regional stability and global security.
